Our senior advisor discusses how an applicant may proceed with a naturalisation application even if they have absences that exceed the criteria or have convictions.

In this video, our senior advisor discusses how an applicant may proceed with a naturalisation application even if they have absences that exceed the criteria or have convictions. Jamal defines what naturalisation is and explains the usual requirements that an individual needs to apply. He explains the different pathways available - s6(1) BNA 1981, also known as the 5 year route, and s6(2) for people married to British citizens. He identifies what grounds the Home Office can exercise their discretion on, where an individual may have too many absences from the UK or have convictions that may affect their 'good character' requirement.
