Eligibility routes

There are more routes to a British passport than most people realise

Many people qualify right now, through family history, colonial links or residence in the UK.

01

Citizenship by Ancestry

If a parent or grandparent was born in the UK, British Islands, or Ireland before May 1922, you may have an automatic claim to British nationality.

02

Citizenship by Marriage

Spouses and civil partners of British citizens can register for citizenship after meeting residence and "good character" requirements.

03

Naturalisation

If you live in the UK and hold Indefinite Leave to Remain or Settled Status, you may qualify for naturalisation as a British citizen.

04

Colonial and Territory Links

Descent from someone born or resident in a former British colony or protectorate may entitle you to British nationality through registration.

05

Children and Minors

Recent changes to nationality law have expanded eligibility for children of unmarried British fathers, adopted children and those with British grandparents.

06

Right of Abode

Some people already have the right to live and work in the UK without a visa. We can determine if you hold Right of Abode and what it means for citizenship.

Client testimonials

Trusted by clients around the world

★★★★★

We recently applied for citizenship for our two children from South Africa. Jamal from Passportia was highly professional and so positive. From the outset he assured us that it was possible despite many other companies saying they could not help us. We are pleased to say that both children are now officially British citizens.
