Our senior advisor discusses how an applicant may proceed with a naturalisation application even if they have absences that exceed the criteria or have convictions.

In this video, our senior advisor discusses how an applicant may proceed with a naturalisation application even if the applicant has absences that exceed the criteria or have convictions.  Jamal explains what naturalisation is and outlines the usual requirements that an individual needs to apply. He explains the different pathways available – section 6(1) BNA 1981, the 5-year route, and section 6(2) for people married to a British citizen, the 3 year route. He identifies what grounds the Home Office can exercise their discretion on, where an individual may have too many absences from the UK or have convictions that may affect the 'good character' requirement.
