The UK Ancestry route is an easier route than Tier 2 skilled worker route to enter the United Kingdom for work-related purposes. To meet the rules, you must:
- Have a UK born grandparent- male or female born in England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland or Southern Ireland before 31st of March 1922, or a ship or aircraft registered in the UK or belonged to the UK government. If you or your parents were adopted by a British citizen- then you can also use your adopted UK born grandparent with the UK Ancestry route
- Be over the age of 17
- Be a Commonwealth citizen
- Be looking for work or intending to work in the United Kingdom
Applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK with UK Ancestry;
After you have spent 5 years in the UK, you can apply for indefinite leave to remain in the UK in line with the rules:
- You are working or looking for work
- You have dependants who are over the age of 18 and are still reliant on you (this could be for children now attending University in the UK)
- You have not spent 180 days in any rolling 12-month period out of the UK
- You can support yourself in the UK and any dependants without relying on Public funds
- You meet the English requirement and the Life in the UK requirements
- You are not making an out of time application
- You meet the good character requirements
The benefits of using a UK Ancestry visa:
You do not need to meet the minimum earning requirement, or maintenance before coming to the UK for yourself or your dependant children or spouse
- No English requirement on entry
- A 5-year visa allowing you to work anywhere without permission
- Your children can qualify for Settlement and British citizenship as well
